Today radiological imaging is no longer limited to the use of X-rays alone, and includes technology-intensive imaging with high frequency sound waves, magnetic fields, and radioactivity. There is also Interventional Radiology, where minimal invasive procedures are done with the guidance of imaging technologies.
The Radiology Department provides a wide range of diagnostic imaging services: including CT scanning, DEXA - Bone Density Scanning, Mammography, MRI scanning, Ultrasound scanning, and X ray.
Radiology can be classified broadly into Diagnostic Radiology and Therapeutic Radiology.
-Chest Radiology,
-Abdominal & Pelvic Radiology, (sometimes termed "Body Imaging"),
-Interventional Radiology using imaging to guide therapeutic and angiographic procedures,
-Neuro Radiology involving the osseous spine and its neural contents, and head and neck imaging,
-Pediatric Radiology,
-Musculoskeletal Radiology,
-Mammography and Women's Imaging,
-Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasonography.
Therapeutic Radiology or Radiotherapy on the other hand is a separate specialty, utilizing radiation to treat cancer and other diseases. It is also known as Radiation Oncology.
Computed radiography (CR) rapidly replacing screen-film imaging systems in many countries. CR uses photostimulable phosphor (PSP) plates which must be transported to a digital scanner (or reader) and scanned with a laser beam to convert the stored image to a digital array. CR radiography uses the computer processing of the digital image, transmission and display of the digital image, and digital image storage. This system relies on picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) for transmission and storage of the digital images.Hospital provided ultra fast CR Radiography for all kind of general imaging including musculoskeletal radiography, chest radiography, abdominal and portable radiography. Hospital provides general and high resolution ultrasound imaging for abdomen, musculoskeletal, breast, neck, thyroid, obstetric and gynecological imaging. 3D and 4D ultrasound provides highly accurate fetal imaging to rule out congenital anomalies. Neurosongram study used for early detection of pediatric brain pathologies such as hemorrhage and focal lesion.
Color Doppler imaging is ultrasound based diagnostic technique used to diagnosis arterial and venous diseases like venous thrombosis, varicose veins and peripheral vascular diseases.

Portal veins assessment
Obstetric Doppler
Doppler study of scrotum for varicocele and testicular torsion
Doppler study for varicose veins
High resolution ultrasound provides useful information regarding breast disease especially in young women. Sonommamogram is highly useful in diagnosing breast lesions such as fibrocystic disease, inflammatory conditions such as abscess as well as malignant lesions. Mammography is a specific type of imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system to examine breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used to aid in the early detection and di agnosis of breast diseases in women.
Mammography plays a central part in early detection of breast cancers because it can show changes in the breast up to two years before a patient or physician can feel them. Current guidelines from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the American Cancer Society (ACS), the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American College of Radiology (ACR) recommend screening mammography every year for women, beginning at age 40. Research has shown that annual mammograms lead to early detection of breast cancers, when they are most curable and breast-conservation therapies are available. Women who have had breast cancer and those who are at increased risk due to a genetic history of breast cancer should seek expert medical advice about whether they should begin screening before age 40 and about the frequency of screening.
Diagnostic mammography is used to evaluate a patient with abnormal clinical findings such as a breast lump or lumps—that have been found by the woman or her doctor. Diagnostic mammography may also be done after an abnormal screening mammogram in order to evaluate the area of concern on the screening exam. Highly advanced CR mammography system of Sunrise Hospital provides very fast and high quality digital imaging of breasts.

It is Magnetic resonance image guided High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. The MRI helps in imaging and monitoring the treatment, and the HIFU treats the fibroid by focusing sound waves at a high intensity into the tissues to heat and coagulate them. it allows you to get back to your regular routine within 24 hours. So, there is no disruption in your daily activities, and you do not need to be dependent on others during this short recovery period.Sunrise Hospital is the first institution in Kerala where MR guided HIFU system installed for the noninvasive treatment of uterine fibroid. HIFU also used for pain management in metastatic lesions of the bones.
Bone Density Scan - DEXA scan (Dual Energy X ray Absorptiometry Scan Bone density scanning, also called dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) or bone densitometry, is an enhanced form of x-raytechnology that is used to measure bone loss. DXA is today's established standard for measuring bone mineraldensity (BMD). DEXA is most often used to diagnose osteoporosis, a condition that often affects women after menopause but may also be found in men. Osteoporosis involves a gradual loss of calcium, as well as structural changes, causing the bones to become thinner, more fragile and more likely to break. DXA is also effective in tracking the effects of treatment for osteoporosis and other conditions that cause bone loss.
Sunrise Hospital is the third hospital in the state of Kerala where DEXA scan facility is available. We have state of Art DEXA scanner for bone mineral density assessment in quick time with expertise orthopedic support for osteoporosis management. We have osteoportic clinic for the management osteoporosis and osteopenia.
